Federal
It is a number assigned by the FMCSA to operate commercial vehicles. It is mandatory for EVERYONE who wishes to operate in both interstate and intrastate commerce and is intended to be a UNIQUE IDENTIFIER that brings together all the information of a carrier or company.
By obtaining a DOT number, you accept the responsibility to operate safely and comply with regulations established by FMCSA.
Only California
The CA number is a unique number assigned by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to commercial vehicles operating in California. This number allows the state to monitor compliance with state regulations and safety and environmental standards.
Only California
It is a Permit granted by DMV to operate loads in the State of California. Drivers who transport property, operate large commercial vehicles, transport hazardous materials, or operate vehicles that require a commercial driver’s license, need a motor carrier permit (MCP) as proof that they have registered their California motor carrier identification number (CA# ) at the DMV. The MCP number will be the same as the CA#.
Interstate
MC Number – also known as Authority to Operate – is of federal jurisdiction, for carriers that operate/work in more than one state (Interstate Operating Authority). It allows monitoring and regulating commercial transportation activities throughout the country.
It may also be needed by a carrier that operates within a state (when the cargo it transports comes from other states or countries).
BOC 3: It is a necessary requirement to activate the MC. It is a list of agents authorized in each state to represent the carrier in case of any legal situation associated with its MC Authority and its work.
Interstate
The IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) is a cooperative agreement between states and provinces of the United States and Canada. It is intended to SIMPLIFY fuel tax licensing and reporting requirements for interstate carriers.
In California, the IFTA is administered by the CTDFA (California Department of Tax and Fee Administration). We work with individual carriers or Companies (Corp/LLC) whose base of operations is in California (that is, registered in California).
Quarterly carrier report on the number of miles traveled and gallons of fuel purchased by each State. This will yield an amount payable that the CDTFA calculates with the aforementioned information.
Carriers traveling through Kentucky, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Connecticut must submit their IFTA report to the CDTFA agency (if it is their home agency) and must also obtain the permits required by the statutes and regulations of those jurisdictions and once obtained, report the miles traveled in each of those states: KYU, New Mexico, Oregon, HUT New York, Connecticut.
Permit for transporters traveling through Kentucky, with trucks weighing more than 59,999 pounds.
Permit to travel in New Mexico with vehicles whose gross weight exceeds 26,000 lbs.
Permit to operate commercial vehicles in Oregon when vehicles exceed 26,000 lbs.
Permit to travel on New York roads with a vehicle weighing more than 18,000 pounds.
Fee for the use of highways in Connecticut.
Interstate
The IRP is a cooperative agreement between US states and Canadian provinces, also known as jurisdictions, to register commercial vehicles traveling to two or more jurisdictions. The vehicle registration is the document issued by the DMV where all the vehicle information appears. The name of the registration is Apportioned Registration CAB CARD.

The carrier pays the license fees to the base jurisdiction (where the fleet is registered) and then the IRP Program distributes them to the various jurisdictions in which the commercial vehicles travel.

Only California
It is a code that allows commercial and government organizations to monitor the driving records of employees who drive for them. Provides companies with a quick way to keep track of their employees’ driving records.
Interstate
Federally mandated program that requires individuals or businesses that operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate or international commerce to register their business in a participating state and pay an annual fee based on the size of their fleet.
It is an annual Tax that pays a fee for each unit that is registered with DOT. It must be paid in base state.
Employer Identification Number (9 digits) issued for the sole purpose of tax administration. It is a form of commercial identification that can be used anywhere in the country.
Registration
Corporations (C): are a legal entity that is separate from its owners.
Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure permitted under state statutes
Both types of companies must register in order to operate legally.
Registration of New LLC or Corporations; Statements of Information; Dissolution of companies.
Fictitious business name. The business name is registered with the office of each county where the carrier lives.
Also called Road Use Tax. This is a Heavy Vehicle Use tax that is directed at all motor vehicles operating on the public roads of the United States of America from more than 55,000 lbs up to 80,000 lbs. Truckers must file and report Form 2290 tax returns each tax period in advance directly to the IRS.
HAZMAT is any solid, liquid or gaseous substance that, due to its physical, chemical or biological characteristics, can cause harm to humans, the environment and property.
HazMat certification is required for transporters to transport hazardous materials in California.
DOT-PHMSA Permit Certificate; CHP Hazmat Permit..
Authorization granted by the company that manages the Port of Long Beach / Port of Los Angeles to allow a carrier to enter it and be able to operate cargo.
Standard Carrier Alpha Code
It is a unique two to four letter coding system used to identify transportation companies. SCAC codes can be obtained from the National Motor Freight Traffic Association Inc (NMFTA). Any company that does business with a United States government agency must have an SCAC code.
This is a mandatory program established by the CARB (California Air Resources Board) for the inspection and maintenance of heavy vehicles. Applies to all diesel commercial vehicles weighing more than 14,000 pounds. It is being required of all carriers based in California, both those with local plates and those with IRP plates.
If an eligible vehicle does not enroll in this program, it will not be able to register new vehicles with IRP or obtain new IRP plates, nor will the DMV allow existing license plate registrations to be renewed.
Additional certificates that we also process ARB Bus & Truck Regulation Compliance Certificate: Truck Regulations Upload, Compliance, and Reporting System (TRUCRS).
The Truck and Bus Regulation is necessary to comply with federal regulations. This regulation requires heavy-duty diesel vehicles operating in California to reduce toxic air pollutant (TAC) emissions from their exhaust gases. And the ARB is requiring carriers to enroll in this program, with which they are issued a certificate of compliance.
In order to operate as a commercial carrier in the state of Texas, the DMV requires that carriers register and apply for a “permit” certificate which can be valid for 1 or 2 years, and is renewable for the same period of time.
