Nevada is strengthening the infrastructure used by the thousands of trucks traveling through the state’s major freight corridors. New parking spaces, expansions and systems that provide real-time information on available spaces are among the projects planned by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
Two highways dominate Nevada’s freight network: Interstate 80 in the north and Interstate 15 in the south.
I-80 crosses Nevada from California to Utah and is part of one of the major transcontinental corridors in the United States. I-15 connects Southern California with Las Vegas and continues north toward Utah, making it another critical freight route in the West.
NDOT identifies Nevada as an important link in the logistics chain because of its location relative to major international Pacific ports and the volume of transcontinental freight moving along I-80 and I-15.
The state also serves as a staging point for freight and as one of the first or last places for trucks to fuel before or after crossing the California state line.

Thousands of Truck Parking Spaces
NDOT’s most recent comprehensive truck parking study provides a clear picture of the infrastructure available along Nevada highways.
Along I-80, 50 locations with 2,247 authorized truck parking spaces were identified across the 410 miles analyzed within the state.
Along I-15 and I-215, the study counted 28 locations and 1,538 authorized spaces across 125 miles.
Other corridors also have significant parking capacity. US-95/95A had 54 locations and 1,156 authorized spaces, while US-93/93A and SR-318 had a combined 33 locations and 1,178 spaces.
The figures come from NDOT’s latest comprehensive inventory and do not represent truck stops alone. They include different types of authorized commercial vehicle parking located within one mile of the corridors analyzed.
Nevada is now updating those numbers. As part of the Nevada State Freight Plan, NDOT scheduled a new statewide assessment of the current truck parking inventory and capacity for this year.
Where Is Nevada’s Truck Parking Network Concentrated?
Along I-80, parking infrastructure extends across most of the corridor from the California state line to Utah.
Reno-Sparks, Fernley, Lovelock, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Elko, Wells and West Wendover are all part of the corridor and have truck stops, travel centers and other locations where commercial drivers can park.
In Southern Nevada, I-15 carries traffic between the California-Nevada state line, Las Vegas and Utah, with parking locations around Jean, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Moapa and Mesquite.
The importance of this corridor is again in focus this September. NDOT is studying long-term improvements to I-15 between the California state line and Sloan, a section the agency describes as the primary connection between Southern California and Las Vegas and a vital route for both tourism and freight movement.

More Truck Parking Planned
Nevada’s Freight Investment Plan includes new investments specifically aimed at commercial trucking.
The projects include parking expansions and new facilities along freight corridors, along with related improvements such as truck lanes and weighing systems.
One of the locations included in the plan is Trinity, near the I-80 and US-95 interchange. NDOT has already identified the area as a strategic location for expanding commercial vehicle parking capacity.
Additional spaces are also planned along I-15, where the plan calls for 54 new truck parking spaces near mile marker 84.
These projects are part of a broader strategy to increase capacity at locations where parking demand overlaps with heavy long-distance truck traffic.
Know If There Is Parking Before You Arrive
But one of the most significant changes for truck drivers is not just about building more parking.
Nevada is moving forward with a Truck Parking Availability System (TPAS), technology designed to tell truckers how many spaces are available before they reach specific parking areas.
The latest Freight Investment Plan includes TPAS at five locations along I-80, with a total estimated investment of $7.6 million for federal fiscal year 2029.
Along I-15, six locations are planned, as part of a project estimated at $6.65 million for 2028.
The goal is to allow drivers to check parking availability while they are still on the road and decide where to stop instead of reaching a parking area only to find that every space is occupied.
The initiative is part of Nevada’s Truck Parking Implementation Plan, which seeks to combine additional parking capacity with better information for drivers.
I-80 Is Also Preparing an Interstate Information Network
Nevada is also working on a project that extends far beyond its own borders.
NDOT, together with the I-80 Corridor Coalition, is leading an initiative funded through a SMART Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve information sharing along the 2,900-mile Interstate 80 corridor.
The coalition brings together transportation agencies from 11 states and is working during 2026 on a common platform for sharing data on road conditions, incidents, weather and truck parking availability.
The goal is for information to continue across state lines instead of stopping at each state border. A truck driver making a long-distance trip along I-80 could receive consistent information about conditions and parking availability farther ahead on the route.
Nevada Updates Its Freight Map for the Years Ahead
Freight movement will continue to play a central role in Nevada’s transportation infrastructure.
The 2026 Nevada Freight Plan Update was approved this summer by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and establishes a new strategy to improve freight mobility, safety and infrastructure across the state.
Along with I-80 and I-15, Nevada continues the gradual development of US-95 as part of the future I-11, envisioned as a north-south corridor that could eventually strengthen commercial connections between Mexico and Canada through Nevada.
For truck drivers, the most visible changes will be on the road: more places to park, expanded capacity along high-traffic freight corridors and systems that will let drivers know ahead of time where truck parking is available.
