The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) continues its safety campaign against electronic logging devices (ELDs) that do not comply with the regulations established by the agency. Throughout 2026, the FMCSA will continue adding ELDs to its list of revoked devices in order to ensure that logging processes are carried out properly.
ELDs are electronic devices that are mandatory in commercial trucks and automatically record each driver’s hours of service (HOS). These devices were implemented to replace manual logbooks, with the goal of improving accuracy, regulatory compliance, and safety. The FMCSA maintains high standards to uphold these principles; therefore, any ELDs that fail to comply are added to a removal list.
The most recent devices were added on Tuesday, January 13.
FMCSA adds ELDs to its list of unauthorized devices
In an official statement, the FMCSA announced that the following ELDs have been removed from its list of approved devices:
- PREMIERRIDE LOGS (model number: 1RIDE; ELD identifier: PRD391)
- DSGELOGS (model number: DSGELOGS1; ELD identifier: DSGEL1)
- STATE ELOGS (model number: ST8-E; ELD identifier: STE384)
- STATE ELOGS 2 (model number: PT-30; ELD identifier: STE384)
According to the FMCSA, these devices do not meet the minimum requirements established in Title 49 CFR, Appendix A, Subpart B, Part 395, which sets forth the functional specifications for all electronic logging devices.
Drivers who are currently using any of the now-revoked devices will have until March 15 to replace the ELD with a compliant device listed on the approved ELD registry. Failure to do so by the deadline will result in the driver being placed out of service due to a lack of proper hours-of-service records.
Before replacing the device, drivers must revert to using paper logs or logging software to record their hours-of-service data and remain in compliance.
New ELD verification process coming soon
During 2025, the FMCSA added 38 devices to its revoked list. This year, the agency will continue its efforts to ensure that all ELDs meet the established requirements. Derek Barrs, FMCSA Administrator, stated that the FMCSA will continue making clear and fair decisions that guarantee safety and support everyone who shares U.S. roadways.
Additionally, the FMCSA recently announced a comprehensive review of the ELD verification process. Since ELDs became mandatory in 2017, the agency has allowed manufacturers to self-certify their devices; however, this process has resulted in some companies failing to comply with regulations, leading to device removals by the FMCSA.
Although details of the new process have not yet been released, the FMCSA stated that it will provide truck drivers and motor carriers with greater security and confidence in the devices they choose to use.
Devices on the revoked list may be reinstated to the FMCSA’s approved list if providers correct the identified deficiencies. The FMCSA strongly recommends that motor carriers replace revoked ELDs—even if they may eventually be reapproved—to ensure full compliance and safety.
