It’s a number assigned by the FMCSA for commercial vehicle operations. It’s mandatory for ALL drivers operating in both interstate and intrastate commerce and is intended to be a unique identifier that gathers all the information about a carrier or company.
By obtaining a DOT number, you accept the responsibility to operate safely and comply with the regulations established by the FMCSA.
The MC Number – also known as the Interstate Operating Authority – is a federally-owned number for carriers that operate/work in more than one state (Interstate Operating Authority). It allows for monitoring and regulating commercial transportation activities nationwide.
A carrier operating within a state (when the cargo it transports originates from other states or countries) may also require it.
BOC 3: This is a necessary requirement to activate the MC. It is a list of authorized agents in each state to represent the carrier in the event of any legal situation related to its MC Authority and its work.
A federally mandated program that requires individuals or businesses operating commercial motor vehicles in interstate or international commerce to register their business in a participating state and pay an annual fee based on their fleet size.
This is an annual tax levied on each DOT-registered vehicle. It must be paid in the base state.
.
The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a cooperative agreement between states and provinces in the United States and Canada. It is designed to simplify fuel tax licensing and reporting requirements for interstate motor carriers.
In California, the IFTA is administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CTDFA). It works with individual motor carriers or corporations (Corp/LLC) with their base of operations in California (i.e., registered in California).
The CA number is a unique number assigned by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to commercial vehicles operating in California. This number allows the state to monitor compliance with state regulations and safety and environmental standards.
It is a permit issued by the DMV to operate cargo in the State of California. Drivers who transport property, operate large commercial vehicles, transport hazardous materials, or operate vehicles that require a commercial driver’s license need a motor carrier permit (MCP) as proof that they have registered their California Carrier Identification Number (CA#) with the DMV. The MCP number will be the same as the CA#.
It is a code that allows commercial and government organizations to monitor the driving records of employees who drive for them. It provides companies with a quick way to keep track of their employees’ driving records.
