What Do Truckers Need to Know About the New Texas Motor Carrier Credentialing System?
Texas truckers face deadline for major state carrier credentialing change.

Texas truckers are approaching the deadline for a major change to the state’s motor carrier credentialing system. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) will launch its new Texas Motor Carrier Credentialing System (TxMCCS) this summer. According to the department, the new platform will replace both the state’s current Motor Carrier Credentialing System and the Electronic Licensing, Insurance, and Credentialing System.

The primary goal of TxMCCS is to provide truckers with a modernized way to apply for motor carrier credentials and manage their accounts. The system will also be used by motor carriers, licensing agencies, and insurance companies, while ensuring that authorities have access to carrier identification information.

According to the TxDMV’s official announcement, some of the new system’s features include:

  • Mobile-friendly access from desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Improved system performance and faster response times.
  • 24/7 online access to manage accounts and complete transactions.
  • Enhanced self-service features, including online document uploads, password resets, and account requests.
  • Expanded account tools, including alerts, notifications, data exports, and immediate printing of cab cards.

The department clarified that motor carriers with outstanding requirements—even if they have already submitted an application through the current system—must complete those requirements no later than July 30 for their applications to be transferred to the new system. If the requirements are not completed by the deadline, the application cannot be transferred, and applicants will need to submit a new application once the new system becomes available.

As the implementation date approaches, the TxDMV will provide additional details regarding:

  • Transition timelines.
  • Account migration steps.
  • Training opportunities.
  • Instructions for accessing the new system.
  • Registration Deadline

According to the TxDMV, insurance companies whose applications have already been accepted will also have until July 30 to complete their insurance registration with the state and submit payment. The department noted that motor carriers should contact their insurance provider to obtain their Unique Identification Number (UIN) in order to submit the required insurance information.

Applications that are currently under review must also be completed before the July 30 deadline. The department said applicants should submit any outstanding information requested through the current system so their applications can be approved. Once that process is complete, they must still submit the required insurance information and make the necessary payment before the deadline.
