According to The State of Network Security in Transportation & Logistics report published this month by Aryaka, 70% of senior logistics and transportation executives say their top priority for the next 12 months is to simplify networks and reduce costs. However, this rush to implement new applications and modernize tech infrastructure is creating cracks in the protection of critical data.
“Today, a cyberattack can paralyze not just a company, but an entire segment of the supply chain,” warns Brian Ferguson, a risk analyst in logistics infrastructure. “What used to be an office problem now affects trucks on the road, delivery systems, and the fuel that reaches a station.”
What’s at Risk?
The most common threats include ransomware that locks down fleet management systems, theft of customer data, and sabotage of delivery logistics. Large fleets aren’t the only targets: small trucking companies are increasingly at risk—especially those using outdated software or lacking network protections.
24/7 connectivity improves traceability and efficiency but also exposes trucks to threats that didn’t exist a decade ago. An unpatched IoT device or a weak server password can become the entry point for a massive breach.

Cybersecurity specialists recommend a set of best practices tailored to the transportation sector:
