The Bipartisan Trucking Caucus, as it has been named, is spearheaded by Rep. Dave Taylor (OH-02) along with Reps. Shomari Figures (AL-02), Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Pat Harrigan (NC-10), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), and Mary Miller (IL-15), who also serve as co-chairs.
According to Rep. Taylor’s official statement, the caucus will provide an organized forum to address a wide range of issues related to the U.S. trucking industry and policies that promote integrity, safety, and growth within the sector, as well as serve as an educational resource for its members.

Bipartisan Trucking Caucus
In addition to addressing issues related to government policy on trucking, the group aims to serve as an educational resource for its members, the organizers noted.
“With nearly $906 billion in revenue in 2024, the U.S. trucking industry drives our economy by creating 8.4 million jobs and ensuring America’s supply chains,” Rep. Taylor said. “After several tragic accidents that have occurred recently due to CDL-licensed drivers being unable to read traffic signs, it is clear that change is needed to protect the lives of Americans on the road. I am proud to launch the Trucking Caucus alongside my colleagues to create a forum to discuss policy solutions that ensure the safety of all drivers on America’s roads, support hardworking truck drivers, and guarantee access to reliable transportation across our country,” Taylor stated in his official release.
Rep. Dave Taylor said that America’s truck drivers are the backbone of the nation’s supply chain. They face challenges such as burdensome regulations, a rise in illegal commercial driver’s license holders, and ongoing safety concerns. For this reason, the creation of the Trucking Caucus seeks to continue supporting the trucking sector.
LaMalfa highlighted the importance of this caucus in rural areas, where trucking “is not optional.” Harrigan echoed this sentiment, stating that the group will give a voice to the truckers who need it, those who play a vital role in the economy, have built it from the ground up, and continue to work hard day after day.
OOIDA shows its support for the Trucking Caucus
The first congressional caucus in favor of trucking has received broad support from organizations such as the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), and others.
OOIDA President Todd Spencer said the association “welcomes the creation of the Trucking Caucus and appreciates the leadership of Congressman Taylor and Congresswoman Hageman for giving small trucking businesses and professional drivers a stronger voice in Washington.”
Spencer added that OOIDA looks forward to working with the caucus to help Congress understand real-world road conditions and promote practical policies that support professional drivers and roadway safety, including expanding and improving truck parking, strengthening training standards, and ensuring that only properly qualified drivers get behind the wheel.
