The boy from New Zealand has no friends. His mother made a call on social networks and what happened moved everyone.
An incredible mother and a response that exceeded all expectations. This is the story of Katherine Johnson and her 8 year old son Ollie who is in love with trucks. So much so that she knows who made each model, what the trucking companies are, and more.
Close to her 8th birthday, this mother from New Zealand had the brilliant idea of calling truckers online so that Ollie could celebrate. The child cannot attend school frequently due to his health condition, which makes it very difficult for him to socialize. His friends? They are undoubtedly these giants on wheels.
“Looking for a trucker to help a little boy. He has no friends, and no one to invite to his party. He is a wonderful boy and we wonder if there are any truckers who can take him around the corner,” this mom wrote, offering $50 in return as a thank you for a two-block ride for Ollie.
But Katherine did not imagine the reaction it would produce among truckers and on social networks. A massive 65 truckers turned up for Ollie’s birthday in what was a huge lineup packed with different models, colors and great drivers.
So big was the call that a police escort had to accompany and order these truckers who became known as “Ollie’s Convoy”, reported The Daily Mail.
“I am in awe of the community and the generosity of New Zealand,” she assured, and an emotional Ollie returned her thanks. This child’s story came to television and the same mayor of Hamilton (where Ollie lives), Paula Southgate, wrote that he was “moved” with his heart.
