Transforming truck stops into safe spaces for women is a necessary step in the industry
Women In Motion from the American Trucking Associations (ATA), in conjunction with Trucker Path, have enlisted over 100 truck stops in their effort to address the specific needs of women on the road, transforming these stops into safe and practical spaces for their use. The organizations encourage other truck stops to join and support women in the industry.
In October 2023, Women in Trucking and Trucker Path unveiled a strategic alliance aimed at aiding women in identifying safe and convenient truck stops. Through this partnership, new features were integrated into the Trucker Path mobile application to locate facilities with safety services specifically recommended by women.
Through Trucker Path, women can swiftly locate stops offering tailored services while accessing real-time information on parking, prices, and fuel discounts.
Sarah Rajtik, ATA’s Chief Operating Officer and co-chair of Women in Motion, emphasized that enhancing access to secure parking is a primary goal. Transforming these spaces into safe havens for women is a crucial step in achieving this aim. She noted the significance of surpassing 100 enrollments, expressing confidence that increased use of the Trucker Path app will bolster women’s trust in it as a road safety tool.

Amenities for women’s safety at truck stops
Services highlighted in the Trucker Path app range from secure access to well-lit bathrooms to overall site illumination, ongoing facility maintenance, and on-site security. Stops offering all seven services are identified with the Women In Motion logo. Currently, nine stops have received full approval, which are:

- Ports to Plains Truck Plaza, Lamar, Colorado
- Garden Inn Truck Plaza, Cabool, Missouri
- Garden Inn Truck Plaza, Mound City, Missouri
- King Travel Plaza, Kingland, Georgia
