The SSC will be incorporated into the DSDC, an NMFTA initiative aimed at digital standardization in freight transportation.
The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) has announced that it will officially take over the administration of the Scheduling Standards Consortium (SSC). With this integration, the SSC will become part of the Digital Standards Development Council (DSDC), an NMFTA-led initiative that brings together industry leaders to advance digital standardization in both Less-than-Truckload (LTL) and Full Truckload (FTL) freight transportation.
NMFTA Executive Director Debbie Sparks emphasized that this decision is part of a carefully planned strategy aimed at streamlining logistics processes through safer, more efficient, and industry-aligned digital solutions. According to Sparks, current SSC members support this vision and have shown strong backing for the integration.

Technological transformation of road freight with the DSDC
The NMFTA explained that this new phase will enable progress in developing digital standards that improve interoperability between carriers, shippers, technology providers, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs). The focus will be on implementing and adopting Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to achieve a fully digitized supply chain.
The association has already demonstrated digital leadership through initiatives like the electronic Bill of Lading (eBOL) standard, launched in 2022, which has seen widespread adoption in the LTL sector. According to the NMFTA, integrating the SSC presents a key opportunity to expand these efforts, encourage collaboration with industry leaders, and continue enhancing transparency and efficiency across the supply chain.
The DSDC brings together a diverse range of stakeholders in the logistics sector, including carriers, shippers, 3PLs, brokers, and technology providers. Its goal is to fully digitize freight transportation by eliminating paper-

Technology, transportation, and logistics: shared goals between SSC and DSDC
The SSC, founded in 2022, was created to reduce complexity in logistics system integration and optimize appointment scheduling in a fragmented transportation and logistics ecosystem—objectives closely aligned with those of the DSDC.
Stuart Scott, Chair of the Digital FTL Council and executive at J.B. Hunt Transport Services, emphasized that the SSC was founded with the mission of benefiting the entire industry. He noted that NMFTA’s technical expertise and proven track record in setting standards made the transition a natural fit. Scott also announced that SSC members will join the Digital FTL Council with the goal of continuing to develop digital standards that drive innovation in the logistics sector.
