Nikola opened its first hydrogen refueling station in Ontario, California, through its Hyla brand. Equipped with a modular charger, this station signifies the company’s next step in providing hydrogen fuel solutions for Class 8 trucks. The station can service up to 40 Class 8 hydrogen electric trucks daily and is part of a plan to establish 60 similar stations in the coming years, with nine expected to be operational by late second quarter of 2024.
At the station, Nikola will provide ongoing assistance to its customers through Hyla ambassadors and on-site operations technicians. This initiative marks a significant advancement for Nikola in its goal to establish one of the largest hydrogen refueling networks for heavy-duty vehicles worldwide.
Nikola Corporation is committed to leading innovation in emissions-free solutions. As an integrated truck and energy company, it aims to transform commercial transportation with its wide range of Class 8 vehicles, including both battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks, backed by its Hyla brand. The company’s objective is to advance the entire hydrogen refueling ecosystem, from supply to distribution and dispensing.
The company plans to build a robust hydrogen supply chain and refueling infrastructure to support its growing customer base. This infrastructure will include a variety of flexible refueling options, such as modular and permanent Hyla stations, customer-owned facilities, and partnerships with public truck stops. As part of this expanding network, Nikola recently announced a 10-year agreement with FirstElement Fuel for a hydrogen refueling station in Oakland, California.
This Hyla refueling solutions network will benefit not only Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles but also other Class 8 customers. Continued development is expected to further facilitate the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and significantly contribute to transportation decarbonization.
