Drivers in Texas have seen a decrease in gasoline prices this week, with the average reaching $2.99 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch report. This figure represents a 5-cent drop compared to last week and a significant reduction of 47 cents compared to the same day last year. This downward trend in gasoline prices has been a relief for motorists in the state.
In particular, drivers in the city of Amarillo have seen an 8-cent decrease from the previous week, with an average of $2.88 per gallon. Compared to the previous year, this represents a drop of 54 cents. Metropolitan areas such as Brownsville-Harlingen and Laredo, are seeing the highest prices in the state, reaching an average of $3.05 per gallon. However, Lubbock has the lowest prices, with an average of $2.78 per gallon.
National decrease: fuel prices in Texas and the U.S.
Nationally, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline has fallen to $3.38 per gallon, representing a 6-cent decrease from the previous week and a reduction of 47 cents compared to the same day last year.
According to AAA Texas officials, the decline in oil prices has been a key factor in this decrease in gasoline prices. WTI crude oil prices have fallen for five consecutive days and are currently around $72 per barrel. Concerns about global demand have contributed to this downward trend in oil prices, directly impacting gasoline costs.
Doug Shupe, a representative of AAA Texas, noted that Texans planning road trips during Labor Day will benefit from lower prices compared to last year. Shupe also offered some tips to help drivers save even more on fuel costs, such as:
- Packing all luggage inside the vehicle instead of using roof racks.
- Obeying speed limits.
- Ensuring tires are properly inflated before hitting the road.
On the other hand, the price of a gallon of diesel in Texas stands at $3.27, remaining in line with the national average. This represents a 3-cent decrease compared to the previous week.
